Herniated Disc Treatment in Newport Beach
Herniated disc or bulging disc is an all too common spinal condition and affects thousands of unknowning people everday. Often showing no signs or symptoms, herniated discs often do not get diagnosed until pain becomes unbearable.
A herniated disc is often caused by degenerating discs due to aging. Other causes can be constant heavy lifting and occassionally injury.
Every case of herniated disc is different. Some people show signs and others do not.
Here are some common symptoms to pay attention to:
- Pain of the arms or legs
- Muscle weakness
- Numbness and tingling of the body
To diagnose disc herniation, your Newport Beach orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Todd Peters will perform a complete and thorough physical examination as well as a medical history check. He may also request X-Rays, MRIs, and CT scans to better assess your case.
X-Rays – A type of quick imaging process using electromagnectic waves to better show Dr. Peters bones of the body to pinpoint possible sources of pain.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) – This type of imaging uses radiology to show Dr. Peters the soft tissues of the body like muscles, disks, nerves, and the spinal cord.
Computerized tomography (CT) – CT scans are X-ray scans taken from various angles to create a cross-section of bones and soft tissues of the body.
If the pain continues and shows no sign of decreasing, Dr. Peters may recommend minimally invasive spine surgery.
Dr. Todd Peters specializes in minimally invasive orthopaedic surgery to treat Herniated Disc. For appointments, please call (949) 383-4182 or Contact Us.
