Todd Peters, MD is a fellowship trained orthopaedic and spine surgeon with a specialty interest and focus in minimally invasive spine surgery, minimally invasive joint replacements, and regenerative biologics. Dr. Peters returns to Orange County after ten years in Colorado, where he treated some of the most prominent athletes in the world. He is recognized as a national leader, innovator, and instructor of his fellow physicians in minimally invasive surgical techniques.
Joining leading Orange County hospital, Hoag Hospital, Dr. Peters brings his vast experience and expertise in minimally invasive orthopaedic spine surgery. He is one of the founding members of as ONE® Brain & Spine Center®. Dr. Peters is dedicated to delivering the “VIP Patient Experience”— a highly individualized, personalized and comprehensive approach to spine surgical and non-surgical treatment and care. This includes patient education, patient history, and necessary lab imaging (X-ray, MRI, and CT scans).
Dr. Peters promotes alternative and non-surgical spinal treatments and therapies. When surgical procedure is the only possible treatment, Dr. Peters emphasizes the benefits to minimally invasive approaches, which requires small incisions and operating in a smaller environment, reducing tissue and muscle damage. Minimally invasive approaches require a skilled, trained and experienced surgeon who is highly familiar with the anatomy, techniques and surgical procedure. Dr. Peters’ expertise in minimally invasive procedures affords him to deliver less disruptive technique, shorter recovery time, less pain, decreased occurrence of infections, and quality long term outcomes for patients.
Dr. Peters continues to be involved with the medical community, publishing peer-review articles and conducting educational presentations in the area of orthopaedic, and specifically, minimally invasive spine surgery. He is also a nationally recognized leader and physician instructor for the newest spine surgery techniques, performing procedures ranging from simple endoscopic surgeries to advanced deformity corrections. Simply put, Dr. Peters teaches other doctors!
Dr. Peters is committed to research and advancement of his field, dedicating significant time in research labs developing new procedures and medical technologies. His advancements in minimally invasive hip replacement surgeries have led to minimizing pain and recovery time while maximizing function and range of motion. Currently, Dr. Peters is focused on MIS disc innovations and next-generation orthopaedic products using human protein and growth factor materials for bone and tissue regeneration.
Dr. Peters is a member of the Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery (SMISS), North American Spine Society (NASS), American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), the Colorado Medical Society, as well as the Western Orthopaedic Society.
Born at Camp Pendleton, CA Dr. Peters received his undergraduate degree from Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and his medical degree from Hahnemann University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He completed a general surgery internship and orthopaedic surgery residency at Allegheny University – Hahnemann Hospital, Philadelphia Pennsylvania, followed with a spine surgery fellowship at the University of Maryland – Shock Trauma – Baltimore, Maryland.
